Ford C-MAX Energi
Ford is making a name for itself both in the UK and in the States as a producer of high quality, green cars. Proof of this came recently, when the new C-MAX Energi was named as America’s most efficient plug-in hybrid.
The Ford C-MAX Energi beats its rival, the Toyota Pruis Plug-in Hybrid, for fuel efficiency, returning a combined consumption of 100MPGe according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It’s the latest model in the brand’s electric and hybrid line-up, which also includes the Focus Electric, C-MAX Hybrid and Fusion Hybrid.
The US has strict fuel economy tests, but this is Ford’s second vehicle to achieve 100MPGe – the Focus Electric also accomplishes this impressive efficiency. According to the federal EPA label, the C-MAX Energi is expected to save buyers up to $7000 over a five-year ownership.John Davis, chief nameplate engineer of the C-MAX Energi said, “Ford is giving customers the power of choice for leading fuel economy regardless of what type of vehicle or powertrain technology they choose. With $5-per-gallon gasoline, C-MAX Energi customers essentially will pay $1.25 per gallon for the same distance travelled compared with average vehicles estimated to achieve 23 mpg.”
The C-MAX Energi’s estimated range is 550 miles, including a range of over 20 miles on electric power only. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the C-MAX are expected in Europe in 2013.
